Portrait to commemorate 200 years of Peru's Independence. Born in Desdre in 1903 and deceased in 1998 in Lima, Peru, Maria Reiche was a German mathematician, astronomer, linguist, and archaeologist to whom we owe many discoveries from research on the Nazca Lines. She fell in love with the desert and devoted her life to it. She lived in a hut without water or electricity for more than 25 years. The Nazca Lines in Peru are now a Cultura Heritage of Humanity, thanks to Reiche's conservation efforts in this mystical place.
